Generative engine optimization services, measured before and after
Our generative engine optimization services start with data: which questions customers ask ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Overviews and AI Mode, who the answers recommend and which sites they cite. Then the Rankmetr team works through the tasks from that report, and the same monitoring shows what changed.
What is generative engine optimization?
Generative engine optimization (GEO) is the work that makes a brand more likely to be mentioned and cited in responses generated by AI platforms: ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Overviews and AI Mode, Perplexity. You may also see it called answer engine optimization (AEO), AI search optimization or LLM SEO.
The names differ, the goal is the same: when a customer asks an AI assistant which company to choose, your brand should appear in the response, and your pages should be among the sources.
GEO does not replace traditional SEO. AI systems rely on pages that search engines can crawl and trust, so technical health, useful content, expertise and authority still matter. What changes is the measurement and the focus. Our GEO guide covers the method in more detail.
GEO vs SEO: how they compare
The base is shared, the unit of measurement and the focus are different.
| SEO | GEO | |
|---|---|---|
| Goal | rankings for keywords in search results | mentions and citations in AI responses |
| What you measure | positions, clicks, traffic | mentioned in N of M checks, place in the list, tone, share of voice |
| Where results appear | Google search and Maps | ChatGPT, Gemini, AI Overviews, AI Mode |
| Main signals | technical health, content, links | sources AI cites, clear brand facts, structured data, access for AI bots |
| Research starts with | keywords and search volume | questions customers ask in their language and city |
Both depend on pages that can be crawled and on real expertise in the content.
What our GEO services include
Every task comes from the AI visibility report, not from a generic checklist.
AI visibility baseline
Responses from ChatGPT and Gemini collected from their interfaces, as people see them, plus Google AI Overviews and AI Mode: whether your brand is mentioned, whether your domain is cited, which competitors and sources appear.
Source work
We research the sites AI platforms cite in your niche, such as directories, reviews, media and forums, and build your presence on the ones that matter, including mentions without a link.
Content for questions
Pages and articles that answer the questions customers ask AI assistants, built from a brief and checked for facts before they go live.
Structured data and bot access
Schema.org markup, AI bots allowed in robots.txt, and text that AI crawlers can extract from each page.
Brand facts
Consistent information about what you do, where and for whom across your pages and profiles, so AI tools describe your business right.
Monthly measurement
The same questions checked again: mentions per AI model, place in the list, tone, share of voice and citation of your site.
How a GEO project runs
- 01
Questions and competitors
We agree on the questions your customers ask, in their language and city, and the competitors you lose to.
- 02
Baseline report
Who AI answers recommend today, which sources they rely on and where your brand is missing.
- 03
Work plan
A strategy with tasks ranked by impact: sources to appear on, pages to create, technical fixes.
- 04
Implementation
Our team does the work we can access ourselves and prepares clear tasks for your developer or content team.
- 05
Re-measure and adjust
Monitoring shows how mentions and citations change over time; the strategy is updated based on results to improve what works.
How we measure results
AI responses change from one check to the next, so a single screenshot proves little. We count each question as mentioned in N of M checks and follow the trend. When Google does not show an AI Overview for a query, we record that state separately instead of reporting that you are absent. The methodology will be published as an open page with a version number.
The report shows mentions per AI model and across all of them, place in the list and tone, share of voice against competitors, how often your domain is cited, the top sources in your niche, and your place in Google Maps and organic results next to the AI response.
What to expect from a GEO agency
GEO is a new field. AI systems do not publish how they choose sources, models change often, and nobody can promise that ChatGPT or Gemini will recommend a specific brand. Be careful with any AI SEO agency that sells a fixed result or shows one case study as proof.
What we can offer is transparent data before and after the work, tasks tied to the sources AI platforms really use, and honest reporting. The service launches together with our AI visibility monitoring, which is in beta, so projects are taken through beta access. We track ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Overviews and AI Mode, with Perplexity less often; Claude and Copilot on request.
Who GEO services are for
Local businesses
Clinics, hotels, rentals and services that customers choose by asking AI assistants who is best in their city. See local business.
Companies with strong SEO
You rank in Google but competitors appear in AI answers instead of you.
Brands in Georgia and Russian-speaking markets
Questions by city, local sources and English and Russian content, with Georgian planned later.
Marketing teams
You keep strategy and brand, we take measurement, source work and technical tasks.
GEO and SEO in one strategy
Most of what helps AI responses also helps search rankings: crawlable pages, clear content, structured data, mentions on trusted sources. That is why our team runs GEO next to SEO services when a client needs both, and one report shows rankings in Google and visibility in AI. To check where you stand first, the free AI visibility checker is in early access.
FAQ
What is the difference between GEO and SEO?
SEO works on rankings in search results for keywords. GEO works on mentions and citations in AI generated answers for questions. They share a base: pages that can be crawled, useful content and authority.
What is an example of AEO?
A clinic notices that ChatGPT recommends two competitors when asked for the best dentist in its city, citing a local directory and a review site. The AEO work is to get a complete, accurate profile on those sources and publish a page that answers the question directly, then check the answers again.
How do you do AI SEO optimization?
Start by measuring which questions matter and what AI answers say now. Then work on the sources they cite, content that answers those questions, structured data and access for AI bots, and measure again.
Can you promise that ChatGPT will recommend us?
No. Nobody controls AI responses. We commit to the agreed work, transparent measurement and a plan updated from the results.
How long does GEO take?
It depends on your niche and how much work is needed on sources and content. Some changes, like a profile on a cited directory, can show up sooner than new content. We report the trend every month.
How much do GEO services cost?
Scope depends on the number of questions, markets and languages. We agree on it after a first review; prices are not published.
