Website monitoring that tells you before your customers do
Website monitoring checks your site on a schedule and alerts you when something breaks. Rankmetr watches uptime, the SSL certificate and the domain expiry date, and sends a notification to Telegram, so you fix the problem before customers and Google notice it.
What is website monitoring?
Website monitoring is the automatic checking of a site to make sure it is available and working as expected. The basic type is uptime monitoring: a monitoring service requests your pages at regular intervals and records whether the server responds and how long the response takes. If the site is down, you get an alert. Other types check performance, content changes on pages, or the steps of a user journey like a checkout.
Without a monitor, most site owners learn about downtime from a customer or from a drop in sales. A few hours of errors cost orders and leads, and if Google repeatedly finds a site unavailable, it can affect crawling and rankings. An expired SSL certificate is just as bad: browsers show a security warning, and most users leave.
What Rankmetr website monitoring checks
The website monitoring module works now.
Uptime
Your site is checked regularly. If it stops responding, you get an alert.
SSL certificate
A warning before the certificate expires, so visitors never see a browser security error.
Domain expiry
A reminder before the domain registration runs out, one of the most avoidable outages.
Telegram notifications
Alerts arrive in Telegram, where you see them quickly.

- 04
Fix and confirm
After the fix, the next check confirms the site is back.
Types of website monitoring
Each type answers a different question about a site. A small business usually needs the first two, plus change tracking on key pages.
- Uptime monitoring: checks whether the server responds. This is the base of any monitoring setup and the first thing to set up.
- SSL and domain monitoring: tracks expiry dates and warns in advance. Simple, and it prevents outages that are entirely self inflicted.
- Performance monitoring: measures response time, page load speed and other metrics, often from different locations. Useful for heavy web apps and stores.
- Synthetic testing: a script repeats a user journey, for example login or checkout, and reports when a step fails.
- Change monitoring: tracks content on important pages and notifies you when text, prices or forms change.
What to look for in website monitoring tools
Free website monitoring tools are fine for one site. These points matter when the site brings customers.
- Fast alerts: a notification in a channel you actually read, not only an email.
- SSL and domain checks: the outages that are easiest to prevent and still happen most often.
- Few false alarms: a second check before an alert, so you trust the notifications.
- History: a record of downtime to discuss with your hosting provider.
- Link to SEO data: availability next to rankings and audit results, so you see the full picture of a site.
Beyond uptime
Downtime is only one way a site can fail. A page can respond normally and still lose its content, prices or contact form after an update. Change monitoring watches important pages and reports what changed, on your site or on competitor sites.

FAQ
What is website monitoring?
It is automatic checking of a website to make sure it is available and works. The monitor alerts you when the site is down or something is about to expire.
Why should you use a monitoring tool?
Because otherwise you learn about downtime from customers. A monitor finds the problem in minutes, not hours.
Is it down, or is it just me?
A monitoring service checks the site from its own servers. If it confirms the site is down, the problem is not on your side.
How do I monitor SSL certificates?
Use a monitor that checks the certificate expiry date and warns you in advance, so you renew it before browsers show a warning.
Does downtime affect SEO?
Short outages rarely matter. Repeated or long downtime can affect how Google crawls the site and, over time, rankings.
Is website monitoring free?
Many tools have a limited free plan for a few sites. Rankmetr is in private beta and prices are not published yet.
