Website technology checker: what is this website built with
The Rankmetr website technology checker shows the CMS, analytics, ad pixels, CRM and other tools behind any site, and can turn a technology into a list of websites that use it. The tool is in early access: leave your email and we will let you know when the free lookup opens.
Look up a website's tech stack
The free tech stack lookup is in early access. Enter the website you want to check and your work email, and we will tell you when it is ready.
What the website technology lookup detects
Technology detection works from what a site sends to the browser: the HTML code, scripts, cookies and response headers. Each platform leaves its own traces, and the checker matches them against known technologies.
- CMS and site builders: WordPress, Shopify, Wix, Tilda, Bitrix and other platforms the website is built on.
- Analytics: Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager and other tracking tools.
- Ad pixels: Meta Pixel, Google Ads tags and other marketing scripts used for retargeting and conversion tracking.
- CRM and marketing tools: chat widgets, forms, email marketing and CRM scripts.
- Frameworks and hosting: JavaScript frameworks, CDN and server technologies, when they are visible from outside.
How to read the result
A technology checker sees only what is public. A tool that runs on the server without traces in the page code will not be detected, and a site built from scratch may show no CMS at all. That is normal: no detection tool sees everything. Treat the result as a reliable list of what is installed, not as a complete map of the company's stack.
What you can do with it
Study competitors
See which CMS, analytics and ad pixels competitors use and whether they run retargeting. Pair it with competitor analysis.
Find leads by technology
Get a list of websites that use a technology, or lack one, for example sites without GA4 or without an ad pixel, with company contacts. See the lead database.
Plan a project
Before a redesign or an audit, check what the site runs on so you know which integrations to keep.
Beyond a free checker
Browser extensions such as Wappalyzer or BuiltWith check one site at a time while you browse. In the platform, the technology module checks any site and builds lists of websites by technology with contacts, and web scraping collects the rest of the data you need from those sites.
FAQ
How do I find out which CMS a website uses?
Use a website technology checker: it reads the page code, scripts and headers and matches them with known platforms. You can also look at the source code yourself for traces such as wp-content for WordPress.
Why can't the checker detect the CMS?
The site may be custom built, or the platform hides its traces. Detection only sees what the site sends to the browser.
What technologies does it detect?
CMS and site builders, analytics, ad pixels, CRM and chat widgets, JavaScript frameworks, CDN and hosting technologies that are visible from outside.
What can I do with a list of websites using a technology?
Use it for prospecting: for example, agencies look for sites without analytics or ad pixels and offer setup.
Is it a BuiltWith or Wappalyzer alternative?
For single lookups and lists of sites by technology, yes. The difference is that it sits next to lead lists, scraping and competitor analysis in one platform.
